Teeth Whitening

At Julia Cerny, DMD PLLC Modern Dentistry & Aesthetics we are happy to offer teeth whitening with our dentist, Dr. Julia.
Upon examination, Dr. Cerny or one of our trained Dental Hygienists will evaluate your smile for teeth whitening. There are a few things that we take into consideration, such as your existing restorations, mostly the ones on your front teeth, as those will not bleach. We always recommend bleaching prior to replacing any tooth-colored fillings, or crowns. We will start the process by doing an in-office bleach session, where we carefully isolate your teeth, we use a strong bleach product that is applied carefully to the desired surface and replaced every 15 minutes in three-four intervals. This session will jump-start your bleach process and give you a lightening of 3-5 shades. We then obtain impressions of your teeth, make molds of your teeth, and fabricate custom trays that fit your teeth only. We show you how to apply the product at home and review the instructions with you so you are more than comfortable when leaving the office.
Since everyone’s teeth bleach differently, the amount of time that you’ll need to bleach at home will be different for everyone. Some patients may achieve the desired shade in two weeks, some in three-four weeks. The amount of product that will be given to you in the starter kit is good for about two weeks. You can purchase refills at our office for a small fee. If you would like to add another in-office whitening session, we can tailor that to your needs, however, an additional fee is assessed for additional in-office sessions.
We strongly recommend using a sensitive toothpaste concurrently with bleaching, ideally to be started two weeks prior to beginning bleaching. This is to counteract any possible sensitivity. Even though the product that we use is very gentle on your teeth and contains medicaments to counteract any possible sensitivity, occasionally patients experience a bit of sensitivity with hot/cold drinks and foods.
Occasionally we feel that you will not benefit from the use of this product and recommend full coverage of the visible areas of your front teeth, such as veneers. Ask us about those! Get a smile that will get you noticed and contact us for a consultation today!
